Back Again
It's July and I'm renewing my efforts to become more proficient with Web 2.0. I'm going to re-do some the lessons that I didn't quite get this spring.

23 Things Extension
So glad to hear that this project has been extended. Hopefully, I will be able to finish it over the summer. Count me in.

Productivity Tools
There are some things here that are useful--the Calendar, To Do Lists, etc. For me, it is a matter of changing old habits. The online calendar works great--but so does the system I've used for 40 years--writing things on the pocket calendar that I carry in my purse. When I move to a Blackberry, then I will probably make more use of these things.

Social Media Sites--Not Worth It
I was not impressed with Mixx, Reddit, etc. Just a lot of people with more time than I have circulating sites. Newsvine looked a little more like something I might use. However, I am not inclined to use any of these at this point. They are down on my priority list of things to learn about Web 2.0. There is only so much time.

Del.iciou.us Fun
I think I will really use this del.iciou.us account. It makes sense to me because it is not tied to a specific computer. I also plan to reorganize my school pathfinders using this. It will be a great way to keep track of them.

Wiki Wonders
I just posted on a wiki and found it very easy to do. I'm trying to think of how I could use this in my library. Hmmmmm.....
Document Organizing
I had never heard of ZoHo before. I'd heard of Google Docs, but didn't really understand it, so this was a good education for me. For some reason, I liked Google Docs better. It just seemed a little easier to use. I see the point of it, although, to be honest, I don't find it a problem to send an attachment or do anything of the things you do with Microsoft Word. It sure is interesting, though, about how everything we used to pay for is now available for free.

Communication Tools--Love Some, Not All
The first part of this Thing was easy as I have been using e-mail for years. I couldn't live without it at work, particularly for group contacts.
I have tried IM but don't like it. I see the point of texting and am trying to get better at it. Students do occasionally contact me from elsewhere for reference help, but e-mail seems to work fine for that.
I have also used webinars for training purposes. They work fine too. I still prefer face-to-face presentations, but you sure can't beat the no cost/no travel component of webinars.

Flickr Frustration
I have just spent an hour trying to figure out how to post the blog title I created on Flickr speller to my blog. I could not fine any directions on the site on how to do this. I fiddled around with every link that I thought plausible, but nothing worked. I am just not very intuitive about this. This is what frustrates me. People say, "Oh, it's so easy..." Well not for me. I'm moving on to something else.

Flickr Education
I just posted my first photo on my blog. Flickr is another application that I have been hearing about for some time now, so, again, I am glad to start to understand how it works. The topic of digital photo managment is a real challenge to me. Maybe this will help.
RSS Intro
I just put together an RSS collection on Google Reader. I have been thinking about doing this for at least 18 months, so it feels really good to have accomplished it. I know I could go hog-wild with adding blogs/news to the list, and I probably will not check it as often as I should, but I'm glad I'm on my way.

Lib. 2.0 Musings
I've just read/viewed through the suggested articles/videos for for L2. Maybe it's just today, but the whole thing makes me tired. I agree with it. I think this is the way the world is going, and we libraries and librarians had better get with the program or else, but I'm not convinced that it will improve my personal world all that much. There's nothing right or wrong with L2--it's just the path we are all on. No doubt, those of us who embrace the interactivity that it offers will find many good things about it. It just always comes down to how one wants to spend the time available.
Since I work in a school, I think about this world of social connectivity a lot. It absorbs and attracts so many of our students. And so much of it doesn't really advance their critical thinking skills and their knowledge of the broader world. Granted, it "could" do this, but I haven't seen much evidence.
Maybe I am just in need of a long nap.

Thing 1 Post
Whew!! After about three tries, I have managed to get this blog up and running. Thanks to the excellent help from the staff at Metronet! I can see that I am a good candidate for this project. Onward.....
